The Student — What I Expect & What You Need
At Wakefield Music Tuition, success comes from a combination of quality tuition and personal commitment.
To make real progress, a student needs dedication, consistency and an open mind.
This page outlines what I expect and what’s required. Not to gatekeep, but to make sure lessons are worthwhile and that time is respected.
Who fares best under this tuition?
- Students who are genuinely curious about music, eager to learn, and ready to ask questions.
- Those who treat music as more than a casual interest, willing to work between lessons, practise, and reflect on what they learn.
- Individuals with enough self-discipline to build a routine, even if life is busy.
- Players who understand that progress is a journey; the speed of advancement depends largely on effort outside the lesson.
What you need to succeed
- A suitable instrument; ideally the student’s own, so practice is possible between lessons. (If needed, I can supply a temporary instrument or check yours during lessons.)
- A reasonable schedule & quiet space for practise.
- Willingness to stay consistent: attend lessons regularly, complete practice/reflection, and commit to improvement.
Support from me
- Structured lessons planned around your goals and current level.
- Guidance, feedback, and suggested practice routines — tailored to fit realistic schedules.
- Advice on instrument care, maintenance, upgrades or setup if required (minor adjustments / check-ups included).
- Ongoing support (phone, email or video) to clarify any questions between lessons, so students never feel stuck.
- Honest communication: if progress stagnates due to lack of effort, or if the student’s goals shift, we’ll discuss candidly; possibly re-evaluating lessons or offering alternative paths.
In short
This tuition works best for students who bring curiosity, commitment, and respect for the craft. If you treat music & lessons as a serious journey — I’ll be with you every step of the way.
